Holiday lodge ownership is an ever more popular alternative form of owning a second home and does differ slightly from purchasing a traditional bricks & mortar property to use as your second home.

Lodges are detached, self-contained, holiday accommodation and are designed with easy and flexible holiday living in mind. When purchasing a lodge on one of our parks, you are purchasing the lodge itself, along with the benefit of a Licence to keep your lodge on the ground on which it stands.

As holiday lodges are not classified as buildings, it is not possible to raise a traditional mortgage against it. However, our sales professionals will be able to talk you through several different financing options and will be able to put you in touch with various financial providers who specialise in funding for lodge purchases.

There are lots of aspects to consider when purchasing your perfect holiday home. Take a look at our guide to the facts you should be considering. Broadly speaking, we’ve found that there are three main aspects to consider when looking for YOUR perfect holiday home.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Before embarking on the journey to find your perfect bolthole to invest in, consider the location:

How far do you want to travel?
Identify the ideal travel-distance and travel-time from your home. This will help you narrow your search.

What’s important to you?
From park facilities to the local area and attractions accessible from your new home from home, we all have different requirements.

A room with a view?
Whether you want rolling hills or a spectacular view of the sea, for many, a view is an important part of choosing the perfect escape. It’s worth checking that your chosen parks can offer the outlook you really want.

MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION

Owning a holiday home can add a whole new dimension to your life, offering an escape and a world of leisure that’s yours whenever you want it. While our owners treasure the freedom their homes from home offer, costs are something to be given careful consideration: the experience is only priceless if it comes worry-free.

Do the prices work for you?
Are there lodges and caravans within your budget-range? Are there premiums on plots with views?

What are the running costs?
Running costs are an important aspect to consider. They come up every year and you must be comfortable with them. Alongside the annual site-fee, you need to find out about the associated costs, such as insurance and utilities.

Do you want your home to work for you?
Subletting your lodge or caravan can generate significant income, which can be used to help offset the running costs. Some parks don’t allow subletting or impose restrictions, so it’s worth checking which schemes are available and how they are managed.

YOUR IDEAL HOME

This really is the fun part. Holiday lodges and caravans come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and, as the technology available has moved on so much in recent years, the options and designs are endless. There will always be fundamental things that are important to you and it’s a good idea to consider these in advance.

How many bedrooms would you like?
Most come with two or three bedrooms, but many lodges can house more and be configured with permutations, such as bunks.

What facilities do you need?
You might want fully-integrated kitchen appliances or state-of-the-art entertainment systems. Your chosen facilities can be catered for, making your home uniquely yours.

Don't forget what's outside!
The outside space may well be important to you and offers further options. Can you have a deck on the home? Would you prefer a private driveway?
